I don’t think you’ll ever be able to penetrate the mystery of God’s revelation in Jesus until it strikes you that the major part of Jesus’ life was hidden and that even the “public” years remained invisible as far as most people were concerned. Whereas the way of the world is to insist on publicity, celebrity, popularity, and getting maximum exposure, God prefers to work in secret. You must let that mystery of God’s secrecy, God’s anonymity, sink deeply into your consciousness because, otherwise, you’re continually looking at it from the wrong point of view. In God’s sight the things that really matter seldom take place in public. . . . Maybe, while we focus our whole attention on the VIPs and their movements, on peace conferences and protest demonstrations, it’s the totally unknown people, praying and working in silence, who make God save us yet again from destruction.

Henri Nouwen

Whether life grinds you down or polishes you depends upon what you’re made of.

Adaptation of a valuable thought by Jacob M. Braude

“Out of the quarrel with others we make rhetoric. Out of the quarrel with ourselves we make poetry.”

W.B. Yeats

“The world is increasingly designed to depress us. Happiness isn’t very good for the economy. If we were happy with what we had, why would we need more? How do you sell an anti-ageing moisturiser? You make someone worry about ageing. How do you get people to vote for a political party? You make them worry about immigration. How do you get them to buy insurance? By making them worry about everything. How do you get them to have plastic surgery? By highlighting their physical flaws. How do you get them to watch a TV show? By making them worry about missing out. How do you get them to buy a new smart phone? By making them feel like they are being left behind. To be calm becomes a kind of revolutionary act. To be happy with your own non-upgraded existence. To be comfortable with our messy, human selves, would not be good for business.”

Matt Haig

Only in the Good News of God’s Kingdom can a Nobody tell Everybody that SOMEBODY can save Anybody who’ll receive God’s gift of love to Everybody. And Everyone in that community of Nobodies who receives Everything from SOMEBODY can become Everything they could have never become—-even if they were once Earth’s biggest somebody. Because you’re more than just a Body to SOMEBODY.

John 3:16—-For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that Everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. (hcsb)

“In the coming world, they will not ask me: ‘Why were you not Moses?’ They will ask me, ‘Why were you not Zusya?'”

Rabbi Zusya

God: “I know your hidden thoughts . . . and what’s wrong with that? I find it helpful in planning your salvation.”

Thomas à Kempis, The Imitation of Christ (3:30)

“Our excesses are the best clues to our own poverty, and our best way of concealing it from ourselves.”

Adam Philips

“If we insist on keeping Hell (or even Earth), we shall not see Heaven: if we accept Heaven we shall not be able to retain even the smallest and most intimate souvenirs of Hell.  I believe, to be sure, that any man who reaches Heaven will find that what he abandoned . . . has not been lost and that the kernel of what he was REALLY SEEKING even in his most depraved wishes will be there, beyond expectation, waiting for him . . . Earth, I think, will not be found by anyone to be in the end a very distinct place.  I think Earth if chosen, instead of Heaven, will turn out to have been, all along, only a region in Hell; and Earth, if put second to Heaven, to have been from the beginning a part of Heaven itself.”

C.S. Lewis, The Great Divorce

“Sometimes a roadblock is not a dead end, but a fresh turn in the road.”

–Darrell Bock

“The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting; it has been found difficult and left untried.”

–G.K. Chesterton

‎”If you are depending upon anything but God, you will never know when He is gone.” –Oswald Chambers

“Don’t try to dull and medicate the pain or the pressures of the difficulties in your life with things less than God.”

-Nancy Leigh DeMoss

“If you are leading a hospital and your mission is primarily designed around keeping your nurses happy, your patients are going to die.”

–John Pearson
