Keep-It-Simple Devo (Wk3/Day3)

Jonah 1:1-4—The Lord gave this message to Jonah son of Amittai: 2 “Get up and go to the great city of Nineveh. Announce my judgment against it because I have seen how wicked its people are.” 3 But Jonah got up and went in the opposite direction to get away from the Lord. He went down to the port of Joppa, where he found a ship leaving for Tarshish. He bought a ticket and went on board, hoping to escape from the Lord by sailing to Tarshish. 4 But the Lord hurled a powerful wind over the sea, causing a violent storm that threatened to break the ship apart. (NLT)

Is it possible that Jonah was more disobedient to God than even Nineveh–the place God was sending Jonah–was? Why might this be?

What “storms” have you gone through because you weren’t doing what God wanted?

Do you have anything you need to change direction on? (Have you stopped long enough–with all the speed you move at–to know the answer to that question?)

Lord, may Your will not just influence, but overwhelm mine. You know how easy it is for me to call myself a ‘Christian,’ but then live my day like I’m somebody else. Help me not to forget what You’re trying to do through me and to listen to You today. Others need me to be like You. Eternity is at stake in the lives around me . . . and the life within me. I want to love you and the mission you have me on more each day, Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
