a leader’s job description

“Not everyone will like you.  This is just a part of life.  But those who do will like you best when you are being authentically yourself.  You can’t make everyone happy; in fact, that’s not your job.  A LEADER IS NOT CALLED TO MAKE PEOPLE HAPPY, BUT TO MAKE PEOPLE BETTER.  And consider this:  when you lie awake at night worried about what someone might be thinking about you, that person is most likely sleeping peacefully.  Stop worrying about what other people will think of you.  Let it go, and give yourself permission to be yourself.  You are at your best when you are being  yourself.”

–Dan Reiland, “Amplified Leadership,” p. 13-14.
