Richard Stearns has said of the Church: “On Sunday morning, safe in our church pews—and surrounded by friends—it can be all too easy to leave the world’s violence, suffering, and turmoil outside . . . out of sight, out of mind. [But] if Jesus was willing to die for this troubled planet, maybe I need to care about it too. Maybe I should love the people who live on it more.”
Why does God leave us here on the planet after we make the necessary soul-level decision to see Him, recognize Him, trust Him, and follow Him? If life on the planet were solely this test, then He would whisk us away to the Heaven He made for us and Him to share. And while that is certainly a wonderful Christian hope and promise, it’s not the only reason we’re here on the planet. He didn’t put us on Earth just so we’d realize we want to escape this life for the next one. You have a part to play here. That part is unique to only you. It’s YOURS.
Christ has no body on earth but yours,
No hands but yours,
No feet but yours.
Yours are the eyes through which Christ’s compassion for for the world is to look out;
Yours are the feet with which He is to go about doing good;
And, yours are the hands with which He is to to bless us now.
